Mulvey School

"The Misericordia Health Centre Foundation’s annual Angel Squad is something that Mulvey School, the Mulvey School Touring Choir and the Principal of Mulvey School, Peter Correia, looks forward to every year. Principal Correia further explains that the wonderful Angel Squad event provides an excellent opportunity to further promote the importance of fostering students’ understanding of giving back, promoting good citizenship and philanthropy. The many community connections fostered by the school, in particular Angel Squad, provides our students with valuable experiences to build awareness that it is always important to take care of each other, our importance to one another regardless of age and for sure always being kind to one another.
“It’s such a Mulvey long-standing tradition,” he said, recalling so many fond memories of years past.
“We post Angel Squad wording on our outdoor sign in the schoolyard. We have lined the school’s fence with Angels, drew picture postcards for the annual mailing campaign and one year we even formed the word “Hi Angels” in the school field for the Misericordia residents to admire and of course the annual singing where we bring students over to Misericordia really early in the morning, at 7:30 a.m., to share the students’ carolling talents. The students love singing to the passing cars and then warming up with a hot chocolate back to the school.”
Principal Correia is reminded daily of the impressive, significant accomplishments of the MHC Foundation Angel Squad campaign through the numerous projects he knows have been accomplished through generous community donations as well as “The Guinness Book of World Record certificate for the largest gathering of angels adorns our hallway,” explained Peter. “That was such a fun event and an honour to host. Everyone participated: staff, students, parents, and neighbouring schools.”
With COVID-19 restrictions in place, Peter understands Mulvey won’t be able to participate in Angel Squad this year as they traditionally have done. However, what he definitely is extremely confident about, that will not change is Misericordia’s commitment to their ongoing care and compassion to the health and wellness for all who they serve. It is always a privilege to visit the residents and with our health-care heroes across the street, we thank them so very much for their selfless compassion and dedication. We will miss them this year on our tour but not to be outdone by COVID-19 restrictions, Peter and his staff and students are planning a little “special something” to safely share with Misericordia. Stay tuned!
