Misericordia Health Centre, located in the heart of the city, is at the heart of the response to COVID-19.
As we’ve seen during each wave of the pandemic, the demand on health-care providers increases and evolves rapidly. Yet, our front-line staff continues working tirelessly 24/7 in order to be ready for whatever comes next.
Misericordia Health Centre’s (MHC) commitment to providing exceptional and compassionate care has never wavered. We are here for you. MHC staff are working tirelessly and collaboratively, relocating team members and resources to support COVID-19 efforts.
December 2021 saw a swift resurgence of COVID-19, and Health Links-Info Santé continued to be a valuable resource available to all Manitobans. As with all health-care professionals, the demand on Health Links-Info Santé increased and evolved rapidly. More than 6,400 calls were being received at the height of the wave, compared to a pre-pandemic average of 350 calls/day.
In May 2021, and again in November 2021, more than 30 MHC health-care heroes (nurses, health-care aides, clinic assistants) were redeployed to other hospitals throughout the city to aid with patient care. These were challenging changes and hardships on all, but necessary sacrifices to save Manitobans’ lives. You can read more about how staff respond to changes like these here.
We are pleased to report that all redeployed staff will be back on site as of March 28, 2022. MHC looks forward to welcoming all staff back and transitioning surgical slates to pre-pandemic levels.
Unfortunately, for thousands of Manitobans, the COVID-19 chapter of their life doesn't end once the infection subsides. Two rehabilitation programs at MHC - Easy Street and MHC for Lungs - are major players in post COVID-19 patient care. You can read more about how these programs are helping COVID-19 long-haulers here.
